Year 5/6 Autumn 1 2025

Welcome back to another exciting half term! We are thrilled to share what your children will be exploring in their lessons this term.

It has been so lovely to welcome everyone back to the new school year and to see how ready everyone is to tackle their learning and grow as role models.  We have kicked off the year with our ‘Classroom Olympics,’ challenging children to achieve their personal bests in terms of learning behaviours, presentation and quality of work. (Our panel of adjudicators all agree that we have the potential to be gold medalists!)

In Literacy, we will dive into the enchanting world of descriptive writing inspired by the wonderful book, Leon and the Place Between, encouraging our students to express their creativity and imagination.

In Maths, we will focus on key numeracy skills surrounding Place Value, alongside effective addition and subtraction strategies, making use of tailored resources to ensure every child can thrive and feel included in their mathematical journeys.

In Religious Education, students will ponder the thought-provoking question, "Why do some people think that God exists?", with a view to fostering their critical thinking and respect for the diverse beliefs within our community, encouraging an inclusive environment where all voices are heard.

For Science and Design Technology, we will investigate the fascinating topic of Forces, including theories on gravity, before embarking on an exciting project where students will create their very own moving toys.

Later in the half term, Healthy Schools Week will provide a brilliant launch to our Computing and PSHE work, kickstarting essential topics like E-Safety and wellbeing. Our aim is to ensure that every child feels safe, supported, and included in discussions about their digital lives.

We can’t wait to see the wonderful learning unfold!

Best wishes,
