Year 5/6 Summer Term 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we approach the last half term, we are looking forward to sharing some of the exciting learning to come!

In Literacy, we will be finishing our non-chronological reports based on The Not Bad Animals. After that, we will move on to writing persuasive adverts inspired by our Arts Week theme, Mary Poppins. This will give the children a brilliant opportunity to use their creativity, language choices and audience awareness to make their writing really shine.

In Maths, we will be tackling open-ended questions and investigations to deepen our reasoning skills, as well as taking on the role of a teacher to “spot the mistakes” in longer problems. We are also learning to play a variety of new quick-fire games to take our arithmetic, counting and calculation skills to the next level.

In Science, we will be exploring the properties of materials and the changes that occur with different materials. The children will be encouraged to observe carefully, ask thoughtful questions and explain their findings clearly.

In Design and Technology, we will be looking at mechanisms and designing fairground rides.

In RE, our topic will see us explore the question: What does it mean to be a Muslim in Britain today? This will support the children in thinking critically and respectfully about beliefs, identity and community.

Thank you for all your continued support
